Meet David Moore, Owner/Operator

I was born into a healthy, happy, military family so we moved regularly during my childhood. After high school, I enrolled at Georgia Southern College, and it was there that I started attending Bible studies and utilizing my musical skills in a travelling Christian band. It was also there that I met my future wife, Susan.

After getting married in college and finishing school, I took my first “real” job in Dalton, Ga., the “Carpet Capital of the World,” and eventually worked for 22 years with Shaw Industries in a variety of roles, the last of which was in regional distribution. That role eventually landed my family in Winston-Salem, where we settled in 1997.

Around 2004 I became restless with the career that was unfolding. I had a good job, enjoyed the people I worked with and was secure, but just didn’t feel like I needed to continue for 20 more years with that company and path.  I wanted to make a bigger difference with my time and skills.

Through the application process, a series of events, and a lot of waiting, I was honored to be chosen as an Operator by the Chick-fil-A selection team on May 16th, 2008. It was exciting to see God’s hand through the entire journey and discover many “coincidences” along the way. I began training that June and took over ownership of the Peace Haven restaurant that August 1st. After eight years at Peace Haven, in June of 2017, I realized my dream of being selected for the Clemmons opportunity.

Since my initial selection, I have tried to follow Truett’s example that modeled biblical operating principles, which include servant leadership, developing others, and striving for excellence in all things. Since 2008, my team has been successful in implementing these principles, and they have put us in great position to be successful in Clemmons.

Near the beginning of my operator journey and by watching successful operators from around the country, I have been formulating a leadership development and restaurant success plan that works for us. In the following pages, you will see the key points of that plan. We use this document to guide us in who we want to become and how we operate. The title, “Clemmons- Who We Are & How We Win” seems to be a great place to start.

Please know that we have definitely not figured it all out. This is a living document that is regularly amended. Having this plan has helped us become better stewards of the business. It has also allowed us to grow our people with purpose and put them in a position to reach their dreams.

For my personal development, I rely on the principles gleaned from regular time in the scriptures, observation and time spent with other great leaders, leadership books and time spent with my most trusted advisor- my wife Susan. I have been privileged to do life with her for over 34 years. We have seven children: Daniel (wife Victoria), Zac (wife Rachael), Elise (husband Jonathan), Eli (wife Avery), Jonah (wife April), Rebecca, and Johanna. We are active in our church(es) and blessed with musical talents that we develop and use for God’s glory. I hope you find these pages informative and motivating.
